2 Alarms for Working Fire in Jail

At 19:41 on Saturday June 23rd, 2007 while the engine was at the parade and carnival in Elk Lake Communications dispatched the Structure Fire Box for a fire in the laundry room at the Susquehanna County Correctional Facility. The Engine responded from elk Lake while the tower and tanker responded from the station all with light crews. United 14 (C. Rosengrant) aboard Engine 2 quickly called for a second alarm to be dispatched due to reports from the jail of a confirmed fire. United 31 (M. Tower 3, Tanker 4, and Engine 2 arrived at the same time with the crew from the engine deploying an 1 3/4" preconnect from the tower and the tower crew putting up ladder to the roof. The engine crew found a dryer in the laundry room well off and made a quick knock on the fire. The crew on the roof checked for extension via the exhaust pipes from the dryer. the crews then went to work removing smoke from the entire building and cleaning up the water from the suppression activities. Crews remained on scene of about 2 1/2 hours for overhaul. the units that assisted included Springville engine and tanker, Elk Lake Engine and Tanker, Snake Creek Engine, Silver Lake Tanker, and Meshoppen Rescue. A big thanks for all of the assistance. There were no reported injuries.
