Tuesday ICE Storm Keeps Crews Busy 

Tuesday Morning January 29th, 2008 around 07:30 hours United Crews were alerted for the Activated Fire Alarm at 1 Grow Av. in the Boro, Endless Mountains Health Systems. The Tower responded on the alarm and after a quick investigation it was found to be an alarm system malfunction. Crews were returned to service by 07:45. As Crews were leaving the hospital it started to rain in the Montrose area and with temperatures in the 20's the roads began to freeze. at 08:15 Susquehanna County Communications alerted United Fire Company and Montrose EMS for the report of a 1 car roll over SR 29 south near the Bowling Ally. Triton 3 Arrived Shortly after dispatch with the report of 1 car on its side, 1 person confined with fluids down. The Rescue and Engine 2 Responded with a total of 7. United 13 (C.E. Daly) arrived confirming the report. The Rescue arrived and deployed box cribbing and air shores to stabilize the vehicle.

The Rescue went east on the Bendix Rd. finding several vehicles including a Salt truck off the road  stuck in ditches but no crashes. Engine 2 went west on the ridge rd finding a car into a pole and one into the side of a building. on further investigation there were no injuries or fluids down. crews maintained traffic control until the vehicles could be removed. United Crews were back in service around 11:00 and with the temperature now above freezing the roads were clearing up.

Crews then removed the Windshield to extricate the victim. While the extrication was in progress Communications again alerted United and Montrose EMS for the report of a car into a barn on SR 706 west of town in Bridgewater Twp. United 11 (P. Sprout) quickly requested Rush Fire be dispatched to that crash and he also responded. Engine 6 also responded from the station. United 11 arrived to find a vehicle that hit the barn with no damage to the building and minor damage to the vehicle with no injuries. Command had all fire units cancel the response. As the Rescue was picking up from the 29 incident passer by's were reporting several other crashes just outside the Village of South Montrose on both the Bendix Rd. and the Ridge Rd. Command notified communications and that they would be responding to investigate and to have Rescue 18 clearing an accident in Harford to hold there current location for a possible assist.
