More ICE = More Work

Crews popped the drivers door and disentangled the drivers feet from the petals. Crews had the victim free with in 10 mins. of arrival. the driver of the garbage truck was no injured. Crews remained on scene cleaning up and assisting the tow service. Around 11:00 that morning with ice still falling United was again alerted for the tree on the house at the corner of Maple and Grow in the Boro. United 11 (P. Sprout) driving by the location found the top of a large pine tree that had snapped of landing on the roof of the house. United Tower and Rescue responded.  Crews entered the structure to asses damage.

As the ice continued to fall crews remained in station handling a few good intent calls during the afternoon and evening. Until just after 20:00  when United rescue was alerted to assist Rescue 2 (Meshoppen) working the heavy entrapment car overturned in a creek and submerged on the Elk Lake Rd. in Auburn Twp. with Elk Lake Fire company. The Rescue responded with 5  and was canceled prior to our arrival with the victim free from the vehicle.

 

 

The Morning of Friday February 1st, 2008 Freezing Rain and Sleet again returned to the area. Around 07:20 Communications transmitted Rescue assignment for the 2 vehicle crash SR 706 west of town. Reporting pickup vs. garbage truck. United Rescue and Engine 2 responded with a crew of 7. United 11 (P. Sprout) arrived reporting heavy entrapment in the pickup. The Rescue arrived immediately deploying the box cribbing to stabilize the vehicle. The engine arrived and deployed a safety line.  Crews had one occupant pinned in the drivers area of the pickup. EMS began attending to the victim while the crew deployed the Hydraulic tools.

It was found that the tree broke through the roof causing major damage to the residence. All occupants of the house made it out safely. Once it was determined that it was safe crews assisted the homeowners with clearing out the affected areas. With the weather conditions it was decided to leave the tree in place until it could be safely removed.  All United Units were in service by 12:00
