On Wednesday April 16th, 2008 at 11:15 hours the
brush fire box was transmitted for a brush fire endangering 2 structures
on outer Chenango St. in Bridgewater Twp. United 13 (C.E. Daly) reported
to the scene followed by brush 7 with a crew of 3 and Engine 2. Brush 7
arrived to find a small fire almost out. Just as crews were went to work
cleaning up the hot spots Communications was again dispatching United
along with cover up units for the the brush truck and engine for the
report of a smoke investigation on Vandermark Rd. in Dimock twp. United
Engine 2 immediately cleared the first fire and went in-route to the
second. United Tanker responded shortly after from the station. on the
Cover Up assignment were units from Springville and Elk Lake. Susquehanna
18 (C. Herbert) who was working in the area was first to arrive reporting
a very large field fire about 10 acres involved heading for a barn and the
woods. He requested the nearest units to expedite. United Brush 7 had
cleared the first fire and also was responding to the second. United 13
arrived with engine 2 and established the Vandermark rd Command requesting
the full second alarm be transmitted along with the third. This brought
units from Springville Rush Hop Bottom Forest lake Sliver Lake and Snake
Creek along with forestry. The crew from Engine 2 pulled 2 200' 1 3/4"
preconnects to protect the barn. As brush trucks started arriving the were
put out into the field to stop the fire before it could reach the woods.
While the units were operating on the fire Crews from Tunkhannock and Lake
Carey were dispatched to stand by for our mutual aid departments. Crews
worked for almost 2 hours bringing the fire under control. In all 25 acres
were burned. 1 firefighter was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
Crews were in service by 13:30. At 14:15 Communications was again
transmitting the Brush fire assignment for SR 706 in Jessup twp.
Communications advised that a firefighter from rush was on scene reporting
about 2 acres involved endangering a house. United Brush 7 Engine 2
and Tanker 4 responded. United 13 arrived and established the Fairdale
command with 2 acres involved near a house. Brush 7 arrived and began to
stop the extension Engine 2 and the tankers crews arrived and again
pulling the preconnects to protect the house. Crews operated for about 30
minuets to bring this fire under control with 2-3 acres burned. there were
no injuries reported. Thanks to all of the Mutual Aid we received today.
