Working basement Fire




On the evening of December 5th, 2008 just after 18:30 hours Communications dispatched the Structure Box in the first due on Williams Rd. Bridgewater twp. United 11 responded and was advised by communications that it was a third party report of possible fire in the basement. United Tower and Engine 2 responded with 9 members. Communications then updated units that they received another call and there was smoke showing from all of the windows. United 11 requested New Milford be placed on stand by. United 11 arrived to find a working fire in a 1 1/2 story residential heavy smoke from the "A" side of the building. United 11 requested the tower drop a line up the driveway. due to ice and a narrow driveway the tower was unable to make the driveway. Engine 2 then made the attempt and made it to the front of the building. There was now heavy fire showing from the basement and fire on division 1 in the AD corner. Crews attempted a quick knockdown of the basement via a window while a crew attempted an interior attack. the interior crew was quickly pushed out of the building due to deteriorating conditions. within minuets the building was fully involved. command requested a second alarm and crews began to set up for defensive activities. crews remained on scene for about 3 hours knocking down the fire and mopping up. the home was a total loss and the family was being assisted by the red cross. There was one firefighter injury reported and treated on scene. United was assisted on scene by New Milford, Harford, Hop Bottom and Hallstead. Snake creek and N.E Regional Birchardville Engine stood by at our station.
