Wednesday April 22nd, 2009 at just before 12:30 United Fire was
dispatched for a brush fire on Hess RD. in Dimock Twp. fire heading for
the woods. United brush 7 Engine6, and the tanker would respond. United
brush 7 arrived to find over an acre burning with the fire headed in two
directions. United 12 (M. Hinds) would arrive on Engine 6 and
Establish the Hess rd Command requesting the second alarm brush units be
dispatched. The crews went to work with both forestry lines off the
brush unit and quickly knock the fire down. Command would have the
extra brush units hold in the station. As the units started to overhaul
the fire a close call happened. Found in the brush in the middle of the
fire was a downed power wire that had no been seen on size up. the crews
notified every one who was working on the fire and notified the power
company. Units operated for a little over 30 minutes controlling the
fire. Thankfully no one was injured. The Next fire was dispatched at
17:05 for a brush fire about 3 acres in size on the Meshoppen Creek RD.
in Dimock twp. United brush, engine 6 and Tanker would respond. united
11 (P. Sprout) would arrive to find a fire that had been burning for a
while with two fronts. Command instructed the brush truck to stop at the
first side and split its crew with Indian tanks to control that side
then come to the far side and deploy a forestry line. Engine 6 was
instructed to deploy it's forestry line to the far side of the fire as
well. Crews quickly brought the fire under control. United operated on
the scene for about 45 minutes with no injuries reported. the fire
consumed about 4 acres.
