Around 23:00 on Wednesday November 11th, 2009 United Fire and Montrose
EMS were alerted for Structure Fire at 66 church St. in Montrose Boro.
Caller reporting heavy smoke visible. With in a minute United 16 (R.
coy) went on scene with heavy smoke showing working fire. United 11 (P.
Sprout) arrived seconds later establishing the command reporting that
the D side exposure was endangered requesting a second alarm. United
Tower went responding with a crew of 4. At this time the fire began to
vent from the roof with the Exposure now involved. This prompted command
to request the 3rd alarm. The Tower arrived, positioning on the "B" side
and securing it's own water. Both Engine's from united were also
responding. Engine 2 took the "A" side securing it's own water as well
and stretched lines to protect the Exposure while the tower crew was
laddering the roof and pulling a 2 1/2" line to division 2. Engine 6
secured a second water source and took the "A" side of the exposure
building. The tower interior crew was then pulled from building due to
deteriorating conditions and repositioned the line to the "D" side for
defensive operations. The Tower crew was also set up on the roof opening
up. Crews quickly darken down the fire from the outside and then
returned to an interior attack. Crews also made entry into the exposure
building to check for extension. There was no extension found into the
interior of the exposure building.The Engine crew made entry into
division 1. As the mutual aide crews began arriving They were put to
work on the extensive overhaul that was required of the job. Crews
remained on scene until just after 03:00 putting out the hot spots. no
one was at home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries
reported. The main building suffered major damage and the exposure
building was held to damage to the exterior of the structure. Crews from
Snake Creek, Meshoppen, Springville, Rush, Forest lake, Hallstead,
Forest Lake, Silver lake, Clifford, Hop Bottom, Harford Ambulance, and
Engine 98 would all assist with the extinguishment of the fire.
