Around 13:30 on Thursday March 18th, 2010 United fire was dispatched for
a Brush Fire on SR 706 west just before Fairdale. United 12 and 13
arrived to find the fire already spread to several acres. United Brush,
Engine 6, and Tanker responded. The brush truck was directed to the west
side of the incident and the engine handled the east side. The Brush
deployed both 3/4" lines and the engine deployed the 1" forestry line
and a 1 3/4" hand line. Command also requested assistance from Rush Fire
for a brush truck and tanker. Crews encountered a quick moving fire but
were able to knock down the bulk of the fire in about 30 minuets.
As Crews were performing overhaul they had found that the fire had
jumped 706 and now was starting to burn a dead tree on the opposite side
of the road. As crew redepolyed the fire took good hold of the tree and
made its way to the to. The tree was sitting in between power lines and
telephone lines. Command requested the utility companies to the scene.
Crews finished overhauling the main body of the fire and command
released Rush from the scene. Crews remained on scene for several hours
as the utility companies worked out a plan to deal with the tree.
Finally the tree was brought down safely and the fire extinguished. In
all about 5 acres were burned. There were no injuries reported. While
crews were dealing with the tree problems united was also dispatched to
a second fire in the first due.
