Busy Week 13 Calls for Service

Crews from United have been enjoying a quiet year up until Thursday May 25th 2006. On the 26th at 08:19 hours crews we dispatched to a reported pole fire on Prospect ST in Montrose Borough. United Engine 6 responded with 4 members along with some additional members in personnel vehicle.  The Crews set up a safety perimeter and turned the scene over to the power company. Then at 16:42 the same day crews were alerted to  2 car accident on SR 706 East of town with the report of 6 patients. Rescue 1 and Engine 6 responded and united 11 (P.Sprout) assumed command.  The crews controlled hazards and helped Montrose EMS with patient care.  

Next Came early morning of May 27th at 00:12 the crews from United we requested to relocate an Engine to New Milford station to cover up for New Milford Fire while they operated on a multi alarm structure fire in their first due. United Engine 6 transferred with a crew of 4 and stood by with out incident for almost 3 hours. As the Engine crew was leaving the station to go home the next alarm was being transmitted by the communication center for and automated alarm 15 Church ST Montrose Borough the Montrose Square apartment at 03:46. The Tower and Engine 6 responded with United 12 (M.Hinds) in command. Crews arrived to a find light smoke condition on the first floor of the building, upon further investigation it was found to be a elevator malfunction and crews ventilated the building and returned to service. Next at 17:22 that evening United Fire Company was alerted to 11 Maple ST the Susquehanna County Court House for an automated fire alarm. United Engine 6 and Tower 3 responded with United 15 (P.Johnson) in command. It was found to be a faulty detector and crews returned. 

Again in the early morning hours on Sunday May 28th at 03:53 united crew were awoken to the report of a structure fire on Lake Roy RD in Franklin Township with the report of entrapment. United 13 (C.Daly) took command and requested the communication center strike a second alarm. The fire turned fatal for one member of the family and the United Fire Company offers it's deepest condolences to the family. 

As crews were getting some rest that afternoon the silence was again broken at 13:34 for a rescue assist to Hop Bottom Hose Company on SR 2015 in Brooklyn Township for a one car accident. The Rescue responded and was canceled while responding. Shortly after crews got back from the rescue assist Communications alerted United again at 14:18 for a rekindle of the earlier structure fire.  United Tower 3 and Tanker 4 responded with United 14 (C.Rosengrant) in command.  The crews wet down the hot spots and applied a blanket of foam to the remains of the fire. 

On May 29th Memorial Day members woke early  and put on full dress uniform to show our respect for our troops. The members marched in the parade and attended the memorial service on the Green in Montrose. This was the first appearance of our recently acquired antique Power Wagon fire truck. A special thanks to Larry Coy and all of the members that made it possible for the truck to appear in the parade. 

Early May 30th United Fire starts at 08:20 on the first of five runs for the day with an automated alarm at 1 Grow AV in Montrose Borough at Endless Mountain Health Systems.  United Tower 3 responded with a crew of 3 with United 12 (M.Hinds) taking command. On arrival crews were advised the hospital had found the problem with an auto clave machine and had contacted a repair man and were able to reset the alarm. At 11:16 United again was alerted to the rekindle at the site of the fire on Sunday morning. United Tanker 4 responded with United 12 in command. Once on scene they wet down the hot spots and applied another blanket of foam. Around 20:30 this evening thunder storms began to move into the area bringing 3 more runs for the day. The first storm related incident came in at 21:07 communications alerted united crews of an automated fire alarm at 2 Monument SQ. Montrose Borough at the Susquehanna County Library.  United Tower 3, Engine 6, Tanker 4 responded with United 11 (P.Sprout) in command. Units arrived with nothing showing from outside. Once a key holder arrived it was determined that that the alarm was caused by a power failure.  The next run came at 21:41 on High School RD. in Bridgewater Township for the report of power wires on fire. United 11 took the command and found no hazard. The final run for the day came at 22:01 for a report of a tree down blocking the road on SR 29 3 miles from town unknown north or south. Units split  and headed in each direction with nothing found.
