Hundred of firefighters, over 30 pieces of apparatus lined the streets of Montrose in a ceremonial farewell to a long time friend of the fire service as the funeral of Charles Franklin Daly was held on Saturday, October 27.

Daly, a volunteer with the United Fire Company, gave over fifty years of his life to the volunteer fire service, not only in Montrose but in Susquehanna County and on a larger scale in Pennsylvania.

"C.F.", a his friends called him, served as president of the Susquehanna County Fireman's Association for many years, having coordinated its annual fire training school countless times at various locations throughout Susquehanna County.

C.F. was also active in the Northeastern Pennsylvania Volunteer Firemen's Federation, having served as President of that organization as well.

Besides having held most major offices within the United Fire Company, C.F. also rose to the helm as President of the Fireman's Association of the State of Pennsylania, often taking him away from his community and his family to tend to the affairs of this organization the voiced the interests of the Commonwealth's fire service.

Most recently, despite his failing health, C.F. served as the President of the Legislative Federation of Pennsylvania, helping with maintaining lines of communications with legislators in Harrisburg.

The tribute paid to C.F. Daly was an impressive one. But it is hardly evens the balance sheet when one looks at the commitment made by one individual for a period of fifty years.

Charlie Daly will be missed by his family, friends, fellow fire fighters and his community. In consolation, Charlie would be pleased to see that others have not looked on his efforts and sacrifices over the years as frivolous or foolish. Instead, this final tribute was a way of saying, .... "CF, we'll miss you, thanks for all you did...."
