United Crews Run First Decon Engine assignment

On Thursday May 4th 2006 at 19:16 hours United Fire Comany was dispatched  to stand by at station for a possible Decon Engine assist to New Milford fire Company at exit 219 of interstate 81 at the flying J travel plaza.  New Milford was working on an incident of a tractor-trailer containing multiple hazardous Materials leaking an unknown product in the parking lot.  The Decon Engine crew was requested to respond at 19:42.  United Engine 2 checked responding at 19:44 with a crew of 6 decon personnel.  The engine arrived at 20:02 and was assigned to assist Station 24 (Greenfield Fire out of Lackawanna County) in setting up a technical Decon line for the Haz-Mat entry team.  Once decon was in place the entry team went in to the trailer of the truck to determine which of the barrels in the truck was leaking and then determine what the substance was.  The entry crew found the leaking barrel and determined that the product leaking was used oil.  With that report command ordered that decon be broken down and returned to service.  United Engine was released from the scene at 21:46.  This was the first Response for the United fire company since completing the required training last summer to become one of the first decon engine companies in the County.
