Members from United, Springville, Forest Lake, Elk Lake, Little Meadows, and Montrose EMS finished with a two part training on November, 1st 2005 as part of the next step towards creating at least 4 Decon engine companies in the county. Crews completed a 24 hour Hazardous Material Operations Class and then jumped into the 8 County Terrorism Task Force 8 hour Mass Decon Class.   Crews that participated are on the tract defined by our Regional Terrorism Task Force to become firefighters and officers to respond on the Decon engine companies.

To participate as a Decon firefighter each member  must have essentials of firefighting or be firefighter I certified (EMS responders for Decon ambulance need EMT cert in place of essentials), complete 24 hour Hazardous Material Operations Class, 4 hour Terrorism Awareness, 16 hour Incident Command class, and 8 hour Mass Decon Awareness. To Be an officer on the engine you will need in addition to the above requirements 8 hour Terrorism Operations. Many of the Members that participated in these two trainings are well on the way to fulfilling the requirements.  As of this time County EMA has received at least 3 applications for companies interested in supplying an engine.  Each county in the 8 county region is required to have 4 Decon engine companies.
