An Alarm was transmitted by the Susquehanna County Comm. center on Sunday October 16th 2005 at aprox 08:45 hours for a barn fire on Fernheim RD in Bridgewater twp. United 11 (P. Sprout) was first to arrive reporting heavy involvement of the main barn. Chief Sprout than requested Station 18 Clifford Ladder, Snake Creek Engine and Tanker, New Milford Tanker, and Silver Lake Tanker to the scene also an Engine from Rush Fire to standby by at our station.

The first in engine was assigned to a defensive attack of the fire and used its deck gun and booster tank to make the initial attack.  when the booster tank was emptied the engine was requested to start laying 5" hose to a pond almost a mile away.  On the arrival of the second in engine they placed their ground monitor into service and used the water from United tanker while water supply was being established.

Crews continued for several hours on overhaul due a stubborn fire in the roof area where the sections of the barn joined together.  crews also faced the hazard of asbestos and slate shingles on the roof of the structure.  The barn was over 100 years old and part of the historic Fernheim Estate. Crews did an excellent job controlling the flames.  The family is expected to repair the damage to the structure.

The fire was declared out at 13:32 and crews remained on scene picking up over 5000 feet of 5" laid for water supply.  all crews were placed back in service at 15:24. There was no livestock in the barn at the time of the fire there was some equipment that was lost in the barn.  There was also reported one firefighter injury who was transported from the scene by Montrose EMS .  The State Police Fire Marshall was called the scene to determine the cause of the fire.

Crews were at work at the fire hall for the monthly breakfast fundraiser at the time of the alarm and would like to thank all of the help they received from family and friends and stand by mutual aid crews who showed up at the hall so that the crews could respond to the alarm.  The help at the hall also provided refreshments to the scene of the fire as well. Also we would like to thank company fire Photographer Renee Coy for the excellent pictures.
