Propane Gas Stove Explosion In the Boro On Sunday February 19th while crews were hard at work serving breakfast for our monthly fundraiser at 08:20 Susquehanna County EOC dispatched United Fire Company along with Montrose EMS for a reported gas stove explosion in a residence on Wilson St. in Montrose Boro. EOC reported that the resident was reporting that there was no fire at the time of the call and they had turned off the gas to the residence. United 11 (P. Sprout) responded promptly from the fire hall followed shortly there after by Engine 2A and Engine 2. United 11 checked on scene at 08:22 and established command reporting nothing showing. Command assigned Engine 2a to side A of the structure and engine 2 was assigned the hydrant at the corner of Union St. and South Main ST. United Engine 2A arrived 08:23 along with United 14 (C.Rosengrant). Command put United 14 in to operations sector and he advise the crew from 2A to check the structure and check the utilities. The Crew from 2A entered the structure into the kitchen and found a propane cook top stove with obvious singes that it had exploded. The resident was still in the structure there was no smoke noted and no obvious odor of propane. the crews did a quick assessment of the area with the Thermal camera with nothing found. The resident had stated that he was cooking at the time of the explosion and it had thrown him across the room. Command then requested that EMS come into the scene to check the resident for injuries. With the gas off and the resident having no injuries command placed all unites in service to return to our previous duties at the fire hall at 08:34.
