Vehicle Fire on Grow Av.

 

On Tuesday March 7, 2006 at 14:39 Susquehanna County EOC dispached United Fire Company along with Montrose EMS. to  a vehicle fire at 57 Grow Av. In Montrose Boro behind the Montrose Dry Cleaners.  United 12 (M.Hinds) checked responding at 14:40 reporting smoke showing. Montrose 24 (J.Sprout) and Montrose 65 (T.Cox) checked on scene at the same time (being the fire was directly in front of the ambulance garage) Reporting working vehicle fire fully involved.  United 12 checked on scene and established command he found a Chevy mini van owned by a local appliance repair service with a fully involved passenger compartment fire. The owner advised command that there were multiple containers of pressurized refrigerant in the back of the vehicle.  United Engine 2 checked responding at 14:43 with a crew of 4 and the tanker responded directly after with 2 members.  

United Engine 2 arrived at 14:43 and the crew split 2 members stretched the 1 3/4"  preconnect while the officer (R.Coy) retrieved the forcible entry tools.  The crew approached the vehicle carefully due to the hazards and began to douse the flames. Montrose 24 contacted communications and asked that Silver Lake Ambulance be dispatched to stand by for Montrose due to the driveway to the ambulance garage being blocked by fire apparatus. The crew brought the majority of the fire under control and were able to move in and a get a closer look at the refrigerant containers that all appeared to have vented in the fire.  Once the we believed that the hazard was clear the forcible entry crew began to force the hood of the vehicle to get the battery.  the fire was stopped in the passenger compartment and had not made it into the engine compartment.  A quick overhaul of the engine compartment was done and then overhaul of the passenger compartment.  The fire was reported out and the engine back in service at 15:16.
